Error 8: Don’t Shift Tenses Illogically
“Recent research has revealed that music can affect certain areas of the brain that helped regulate specific physiological functions that were necessary for optimal health.”
The verb tenses within a sentence need to be consistent. Sometimes a change in time is indicated, so the tense will shift, but the result needs to be logical. In the sample, the present perfect verb phrase “has revealed” needs to be followed with the simple present tense verbs “help” and “are.”
句子中的動詞時態必須維持一致，有時時間改變了，時態會隨之改變，但是改變之後句子仍需符合邏輯。例句中現在完成動詞片語 “has revealed” 的後面，應該接簡單現在式動詞 “help” 和 “are”。
